TRIBUTE TO CHICA - 2013
“Tribute to Chica” is a sculpture inspired by a mule that lives on my mother-in-law’s farm here in Jarinu, SP. It is a playful and captivating mule.
One day I was observing her and decided to leave a seed in my conscience, as a promise to one day develop something for her.
Two months later this day arrived and Chica's grace came in the form of another “quadruped”, the chair.
In the project, there was a great challenge in composing aesthetics, harmony of measurements and functionality, with the latter not being the focus as it is a sculpture and not a functional object that is used in everyday life.
As for the material used, wood is the material I like to work with the most and the choice of Jequitibá was crucial in aligning with the animal's personality.
Unlike imbuia (black), cedar (red) and cacheta (white), jequitibá is a solid, heavy wood, but its color is almost undefined, opaque, literally a mixture of tones.
